Mai Chan is a Chihuahua-mixed. We adopted her from a shelter when she was 1 – 2 years old. The shelter informed us that she was a stray that had been hanging out at a truck-stop. She is now about 11-yrs old, so she is a senior.
We tried to give Mai Chan a comfortable, easy life at home. It took about six months before she realized that she had a new, permanent home. Now, she is content with her surroundings, her new family and live in a much safer place.
Mai Chan is a Japanese name. The Chan part means “little girl” in Japanese. Though she is no longer a young dog, we continue to call her Mai Chan, and it is the name she recognizes.
Mai-Chan is a good pet for someone who is very attentive. She senses a lot of things and is very communicative in that way. Yet, she does not require a lot of interactions either. You can leave her alone for hours, and she will be just fine. She will not destroy your house like some dogs might do. Just be careful to not leave books, clothes and towels on the floor. When she gets hungry, she will try to chew on these items.
Mai Chan is a fairly healthy dog. She is up-to-date with vaccinations and visits the veterinarian office annually. She is mostly an in-door dog. In our home, she has several places where she can comfortably sit/sleep. She likes the portable crate because of the warm blanket inside.

Every so often, she will have minor bouts of reversed sneezing. It does not happen often, possibly once every 6 – 9 months. It only lasts about a minute and then she is back to normal again. If you are not familiar with this symptom, you can read more.
