- Warm Places – Mai Chan prefers a warm blanket to sleep and rest on. If you sit on a couch and then get up after a few minutes, likely, Mai Chan will be resting in your old spot.
- Going for walks – Like most dogs, Mai Chan loves to go outside and explore. We usually take her out in the mornings and in the evenings after she has eaten her meals. We try taking different routes around our neighborhood whenever possible, so the scenery does not become too monotonous. Mai Chan seem to enjoy visiting different places.
- Freedom to roam – We have a doggy door that leads out to the back porch. She can sit in the sun and do her thing, if needed. She goes in-and-out quite a bit in a day – around 4 – 6 times. Inside the house, she can go into most rooms, but she is not permitted to get on the beds.
- Snacks – We usually give her a doggy treat after returning from walks and whenever she gets hungry between meals. We do leave food out because she lacks self-control.
- Playing – We do play with her regularly. She likes to grab soft toys in her mouth and we will tug very lightly on the toy from side to side. Note, she is a small dog with weak teeth. We do not play rough at all nor for too long, so as to not irritate her.
- Sunning – Mai Chan likes to go outside and just lay in the sun. She likes the warm, relaxing feeling.
- Protect the house – Mai Chan is a good guard dog. Anytime, someone approaches our house, she will bark loudly.
- Food – She like all kinds of food, but we only give her dog food and dog snacks. We no longer feed her human food or give her scraps from the table.
DISLIKES
- Vacuum Cleaners – Mai Chan hates the noise that vacuum cleaners make. She will bark and hiss at them. When they get really close, she will run away.
- Loud Yelling – Mai Chan gets scare when people are yelling. She will go to a far away room and try to hide there until the noise is subsides.
- Other dogs. Mai Chan has not been trained to be social around other dogs. Therefore, every dog she encounters is an enemy. We try to keep her away from other dogs during walks. If it is just people, she is fine with that.
We have never seen her ever be friendly to another dog. - Easy to Spook– It does not take much to scare her. She is more nervous than curious. If we introduce something new into her world, we try to do it a careful way. Otherwise, it makes her uncomfortable, and she will most likely walk away. Like most dogs, Mai Chan has a keen sense of our intentions and will reacts accordingly.
